Deere, NH, Kubota, Ram, Chey, ford all use EGR, DPF filters, regens to clean DPF filters. EGR (Exhaust gas recirculation) is bad for diesels as the exhaust usually contains particulate. It robs power and fuel efficiency. Regens can cause oil dilution due to blow by. Regens burn more fuel. they dump raw fuel down exhaust to ignite DPF for cleaning. Most folks forget that raw fuel has to go through the exhaust side of the turbo which usually reduces turbo life. DPF filters need replaced over time, they are thousands of dollars. New deeres etc. use the Urea fluid, EGR, DPF. Poor way to meet emissions in my opinion.
Massey and SCR technology. No DPF, no EGR on 5611,5612,5613. Which means no regens. Motor is tuned for power and efficiency, not tweaked to handle fuel dumping. It meets power and efficiency when people think of a diesel engine. It does have DEF. When the exhaust comes out of the turbo, they measure NOX, they then dose DEF to meet the emissions. They arnt just spraying it in there, they use only the amount needed to meet specs, so you aren't going through a tank of DEF every tank of fuel. I have been told it barely uses it, I'll report back my usage rates. Another thing, you can idle her all day, cause you are not clogging a DPF. These other companies tell you shut it off if idling more than 4 minutes.
I think the SCR technology Massey uses is far superior to these DPF systems. I wouldn't be surprised if the others go to this technology later. Not sure what patents etc. are in play, but the way they meet emissions far exceeds the crowds solution.
