Bought a jd 165 hydro cheap

Ooo I bought a really good comdition Jd 165 hydrostatic trams mower....there older I know and have the Kawasaki....would changing it to synthetic like amsoil be beneficial or be a big no no? I need opinions? If anyone has ever tried or just stick with conventional...thanks guys appreciate your imput

I have a JD 125 mower . Hydro . transmission failed and took to JD repair. Wanted $1200 bucks to fix by exchanging the transmission since not repairable.
There is a web site that explains how to fix and it is almost simple. instead of 30 wt. oil used Hydraulic oil
and no problems cannot tell if there is slippage or not but good as when purchased .

Yea but my mower is in perfect running shape just want to know if for the engine synthetic is ok? If I change and never go back or just to forget it and stick with conventional....also what is best trans fluid and hydro fluid for a later model mower like I have...I want to keep up with fluids but I don't get a 28 year old mower with a owners manual anymore and I'm sure over the years people have found better solutions then what they were givin in the late 80s

Full synthetic may cause it to use more oil than it does with conventional oil, but it should not damage the engine to use it after many years of dino oil use. Full synthetic is a bit more fluid so it goes into tighter crevices hence it may get by a worn ring or even a cracked gasket when dino oil wont.
