Bought a new 2016 Camry XSE.....had an argument with the finance manager

I bought a used car from a Lexus dealership in the Dallas area, and it was a very pleasant experience. They were very professional, no games, no running back and forth to the manager's office and the finance lady didn't try any monkey business. She did offer the extended warranty, which I declined and she said "ok" and that was it. I was in and out in about 45 minutes including a 20 minute test drive.

I've heard dealers that sell luxury vehicles are like this. I guess it's kind of expected since you're paying a premium for a luxury car that you expect a level of service not found in "normal" dealers that everyone shops at. I know the BMW dealership close to me is AWESOME to deal with, I just can't talk my mom into letting me buy her anything "overly fancy" as she puts it.

I think you're right. I was buying a used car and it wasn't a Lexus or a luxury brand, but that dealership is used to dealing with people in a professional manner.

I bet luxury brand dealers just can't afford to have slime-balls working for them. I imagine the clientele is much less likely to put up with being pushed around.

My buying experience with my 2012 Chevy, and my wife's 2013 and 2015 VWs were horrible. Just miserable experiences. Same finance manger BS. On the 2015, I threatened to shove the car as far as I could up his enormous keister.

Our local dealership networks are doing me a huge favor, because I will not buy a new vehicle again in the near future.

My two local Ford dealers are awful. My wife wanted a 2013 Edge Sport. They offered us about 9K for my 2008 BMW 335I. I sold it 2 days later on CL myself to the second guy to come look at it for 15K. Booked for 15.5K.

Went back to the local dealer and made him a cash offer on the Edge and he said no. Came back $180 off sticker. Yes, $180 on a nearly 40K vehicle.

Wife got on the net and did a 250 mile search. Found one about 3 hrs away. It had NAV which the other dealers did not. Called and talked to a sales man and said give me your best price. He called back 10 minutes later $4000 less than the local ones with no NAV, a $2500 upgrade. Gave him a $500 deposit over the phone. 20 minutes later I had a purchase order emailed to me with no funny business. Jumped in my truck, went to bank drive up and got a cashiers check, drove 3 hours, at the dealer 40 minutes, came home with a new Edge.

The way it should be!

Back in 2013 I went through the same sort of games. The one I love the most was the lower interest rate for a longer loan. I guess they assume people are going to make the payment and not think twice. In my case they offered me a 6 year loan for a full 1% lower than I could get on a 3, 4, or 5 year loan. I took the 6 year loan. The cash I would have paid for the car is now invested making a lot more than the 1.09% they are charging me. They didn't try to offer me gap insurance but my guess it was because the car I was trading in was worth enough so that they couldn't try to tell me how I "needed" it. Of course they had a whole list of add on options.

The funny thing is that any Toyota dealer can sell you an extended warranty, even if you don't buy the car from them. I didn't bother because, well it's a Toyota and it's unlikely to need it, it replaces your standard warranty. When I asked why would I buy a 100k warranty that isn't 100k? The guy looked puzzled. I said it comes with a 36k warranty already and your warranty ends at 100k so it's really a 64k warranty. I said I'll wait until the 36k warranty is up and then look into getting an extended warranty if I want it.
