PHD does well with my GC2410, only had to pry it out once (test hole) and it was thick clay. I would get off the tractor, put chock blocks under the rear tire front and back, lock the brake. Then fold the seat up, place the engine 1\4 throttle stand to the right side, hold the seat safety switch down and lift the auger up and down as needed.

issues I ran into are.....can never get the auger in precise enough position to where I didn't need to use the manual post digger to clean up. I also ran into an issue where the auger never cleans out the bottom 1\4 of the hole so you need the manual PHD to clean it out. I have the 6 inch auger and wonder if I should get the 9 inch or 12 inch-maybe they would clean the hole better? I marked where the 4x4 post should go and even though the auger tip starts on the hole at point it always goes off to the side or front.

i use the 9" auger on mine and it also leaves a few inches of dirt on the bottom. I have hard clay soil, but in some areas, the auger would attempt to screw itself in, other holes just 8' away would only bite an inch at a time....couldn't figure that out. When it just started to bog / change in pto sound, I would lift it. Seemed to get the biggest bite that way without it getting stuck. Some holes, if I was a 1/2 second late lifting it, it would get stuck.

I also use a big pipe wrench with a 4' pipe to unscrew the auger. First couple of times was really hard to do...then I realized that I had the F/M/R pto selector still engaged. (Engine was off, electric pto switch was off). Putting the pto selector into neutral made it much, much easier to unscrew.

Also, having a spotter helps with getting the auger to go straight. I start the hole with the top of the auger tilted slightly towards the tractor. As the auger starts to go down, it becomes more vertical. Also tighten up the 3 point stabilizers so that there is minimal or no play side to side. That helped a bit also. The 9" auger gave me enough play in the hole to position the 4" post where it was in line where it should be. I would still get up to 2" of wander from where I set the point.

I have a County line Digger with a 12" auger and it has done every post hole so far on my Place had it about 5 years or so. Use it mostly with my 30hp New Holland. I like the 12 inch auger bit because you will find that where you want your post and where the post hole actually gets dug are always off by anywhere from a couple inches to a ft or so. This is due to many factors being involved such as The Ground Type, The operator, The slope of the Ground, and the Design of the Machine. You won't have any trouble turning it with your Horsepower Just go Slow!!!! and take Small Bites!!! There is a video that Everything Attachments has done about post hole digging Look it up Before you dig and If you use a helper spotter or whatever do not let them anywhere near the machine while running, I don't care how fast you are on the PTO Shutoff the damage is already done by that time.....Good Luck and be safe.

Thanks for the Post, I always look at a PHD, but without knowing how it would work on our machines I never tried.
