Thanks for all the help providing info about different lawn tractors over the last few weeks. Decided on a new X320 for my Dad, and it is a beauty! It really runs smooth and has a lot of power. My Dad was like the kid in Christmas Story when he gets the bb gun. One question for any x320 or similar model owners, When the tractor is just sitting and you gently move the steering wheel side to side, is there a little bit of free play till hit starts actually working and turning the wheels? It's not play in the steering linkage etc, but just a little free room.

Go back and question the dealer, and test some more new ones on the floor. It's probably normal.
The ones without power steering have two gears that mesh and some play is normal. Otherwise it's ball joints.
It's possible the gear mesh can be tightened if yours is different to the other ones.

Your dad is a lucky man to have a son like you, I'm sure he'll be very happy with the X320!
