So, I have been concious for the last few days that my box blade rides close to the rear end of my tc55da when all the way up. So I usually run it about 15% below all the way up.

Well yesterday I pulled it all the way up and wham, I drove the claw into the tire. Thank-fully it jammed into a ridge. PRobably a .5" deep gash.

This is not a situation I have encountered before. I am not that sure what I can do about this situation. Currently I just pulled the outer claws and have three that mount on the inside of the tires.

Am I doing something wrong in the hookup ? I have the telescoping arms.

Bummer - at least you didn't poke a hole in the tire.

If you shorten up the top link, it should rotate the box blade away from the tire a bit. Might not give you the angle of attach you want when using it though. A hydraulic top link would let you change it on the fly (but also offer added room for error).

What box blade do you have? Maybe a different mfg/model would be sized better...

Do you have your stabilizer chains adjusted correctly?

Don't feel bad.. the first day i owned a box blade, I put it onmy ym1700m and in about 5 minutes I had the box blade into the tires... cost me an adjustable link arm...

I got my stabilizer chains set that afternoon.

You might try extending the box's attaching points forward. Some cutting and welding would be involved, but you wouldn't have to worry about it again.

1) Stabilizer Chains = what I call swaybars? Then Yes or at least I think so. I currently have them as close in as possible and locked in place. As close in as possible means there is about an inch on each side between the bar and tire.

2) Is this a common problem ? By that I mean does this happen on occasion in general. Or is it a design problem, or an improper implement design for a particular tractor?

Hydraulic top link may be my answer. I'll give my NH man a call. How hard is to do yourself ?

What about something to move it away from the tires some? Maybe a quick attach system? Maybe it would back enough?

If you have a single remote valve already installed, a hydraulic toplink can be purchased from several vendors here on TBN, Integration Engineering, CCI, and Sweet Tractors also (I believe). They are almost as simple to install as a non-hydraulic toplink.

That won't stop your problem completely and it may actually contribute to it. If you have that toplink extended and forget when you raise the boxblade, you'll get a rude reminder. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif I think I'd set my lift-stop up high and use that as a reminder. My tractor only has one movable stop on the 3PH control and I've always wished there were two: one for high and one for low. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

By the way, I've hit my rear tires with my boxblade many times and they seem to take it in stride and bounce back. It sure gets your attention though. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Definitely give a quick-attach system a look. It will move the box-blade about two or three inches further away from your tires. That should solve it, and make installing implements easier to boot.

I had same problem with my bush hog hitting tires, I put on the Pats easy hitch and fixed the problem and way easier to change attachments..Did you mean Love at first Bite??? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

On the "DA" model New Hollands, they have the adjustable length lower arms. I don't know if the Pat's Easy Change system will fit on that type arm. Of course, the arms adjust out about 3" in length, so if he could get them to stay in that position, the problem would be solved rather cheaply. I've had mine apart and I think you could modify them, but I wouldn't want to do it until my warranty was gone. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
