Hey Folks,

Have'nt put a front blade on yet so I've been using the 48in box blade I have on the 425 JD to move snow.

It works for pushing snow away from the house.

I come back later and scoop it all up with the larger tactor I have.

Just curious if (in a pinch) anybody ever used thier box blade for snow removal?

Have a warm day.

In a pinch, No.

By choice, all the time.

I use a 7' box blade behind the TN for snow removal along with the loader. The loader will fill up and then the box blade will pick up a lot and carry it. You will see the snow piling up under the tractor also as the rear wheels hold the snow under the tractor. When you get enough you can either drive off the driveway and dump the loader and lift the box and back out. Or you can do it in the driveway and use the loader to push it off the drive.

I have a 6' rear blade and a 5' snow blower as well as a 6' Curtis blade to mount to the loader on the 1920 and while it is nice it doesn't move as much snow as the TN with box blade. The snow blower does blow snow but unless you get to the driveway before people drive on the snow all it does is ride over packed snow and before you know it you have a driveway full of packed snow and have to use the loader to break it all up. We keep it in case the snow gets too deep in and around the deer pens but we won't use it for general snow removal (plus I dislike how it throws stones).

To have a good cutting edge on it and they will cut in with a leghtened top link. Shorten the top link and they float over the stones.

Thanks Art, it is still 6 to one, half dozen the other. To scape the ground good you pick up stones, if you float to miss the stones you get hard packed snow that is slick. I think if you had a nice black top driveway then it doesn't matter. It would also be fine on our long driveway to the back pens but until I get a tractor with a front 3pt I am not going to drive the half mile to the pens backwards 3 times to open the driveway enough.

I have thought about buying a TN85FA with the front 3pt and pto (I think you can get it on the 85 maybe I need the 95). If I get that I could see hooking up the snow blower and the rear blade to that tractor as it won't be doing much else during the winter so it would be a nice tractor for long driveway clearing with the heated cab and radio going:cool:

Hey folks,

I back up to push snow with my BB.

My cutting blade permanently faces the driver so it kinda floats over my recycled asphalt drive ... in my case that's kind of a good thing.

Anyway I'm not saying this is optimum ... I'm just saying it works for now till I get/convince my lovely wife I need another set up :)

Stay warm,

My box blade has a floating rear blade so if I am trying to work tight to a house or if the ground hasn't froze yet I use the loader bucket and back drag the snow. Usually after you clear the snow one or two times the driveway freezes and then it is much easier to clear.

I used the BB and the loader to remove snow last winter. Had lots of fun.

A little off subject, but I use my 72" landscape rake to move snow off my gravel drive. It actually works a bit better than a BB because it combs the snow off the gravel and is curved and fully angling. It works just like a plow, so I use this option for certain components of snow removal. I do not believe many are aware that rear landscaping attachcments such as a box blade and LR can do such a nice job here. When you think about it a "snowpush" which is actually marketed by JD for its larger tractors, is basically a BB for the front.
