I'm getting ready to design and build a box blade.

I don't have a tractor to pull it only my Sportsman Quad.

Since I don't have a 3 pt. hitch to lift this it'll be a pull behind with wheels.

Question......I need a little help in designing the axles and wheels on this thing.

I need the ability for it to lift itself off the ground by backing up a bit, then pull a pin to let it drop down when going forward.

Any and all info greatly appreciated, especiall pics or drawings.

Go to :Worksaver ATV & Garden Tractor Equipment
and you will see some designs for atv attachments you are describing. Then if you go to their manual section you might see or get some kind of ideas from their parts breakdown.

Just a suggestion, and it may only be worth what you paid for it; While I like the idea and simplicity of backing it up to raise, why not add a 12v linear actuator to raise and lower? Not only would that allow you to raise and lower with the push of a button, it would also allow you to set the height of the blade for times when you don't want full contact with the ground.

Again, just an idea.

Why not put the wheels on a pair of swing arms like on those pull-behind lawn aerators sold at the box stores?

Agri-Fab 48 in. Tow Plug Aerator - 45-0299 at The Home Depot

Pull the handle one way and the wheels swing down so it can be transported; release it the other way and the wheels and axle swing up so the implement can go to work.

You might even be able to fix up a series of angle settings for the wheels so you can adjust how much "bite" the box blade has. Tilted forward, the blade digs in; set level,it carries the dirt; with a slight back tilt, it levels out the surface; and with it raised a 1/2", it drops and smooths the box contents over the surface. On a tractor box blade, those changes are done with the position control and the top link adjustment.

I have thought about a 12 volt actuator or the spare winch I have from the other 4 wheeler.

That would give me bite control at the push of a button.

I'll have to ponder that idea a bit.

Thanks much

Here is what I built to use behind my ATV sorry for the bad photos but that is all I have on this computer. I use a 12v hydraulic pack mounted on the rear rack of the fourwheeler, which also works on my dump trailer in the second photo.

I made the tounge adjustable to adjust the angle on the box blade. It works real good on loose dirt and gravel on real hard stuff I hang a few tractor weights on it to get it to dig in.

added info

If I was doing it again I would go to TSC and buy a box blade and add the tounge are rear wheels as it may cost more but would make it a quicker build.
