box scraper size/weight..... small blade on larger tractor...

I have a L3400 34hp, hst, 4wd.. Someone has offered me a small box scraper which is only rated for 25hp tractors at a very attractive price. I told them it was too small for my tractor but keep debating in my head if I should get it anyways? My main use is clearing forest and trying to reclaim to pasture. Would this be a useful tool or too small/thin/light weight? It says it is for "sub" compacts, which I figure is like a BX size Kubota, not an L like I have.So basically I know the answer but curious if anyone feels differently, I have never used one of these. 4′ Box Blade Sub-Compact — Tarter Farm and Ranch Equipment | American Made Quality Since 1945

It will do what you want to do but you may get frustrated at the progress you make. It is light and will not cut very well unless you add some weight to it. I don't know how much would be too much but I would guess a 100 pounds or so? If the price is attractive as you say I would get it and be judicious in my application. Just keep in mind you could tear it up.

At one time I owned a 1720 New Holland which is similar in size but a little heavier than your L3400. I had a really nice 5 foot Woods rear box blade that weighed in at 540 pounds. It was a perfect match. Just wanted to give you a frame of reference.

I have a L2501 which have very close dimensions to your L3200. I don't know if a 48" with cover your wheelbase, as mine is 60" across rear tire with r4s. So when i bought my tractor i bought a Landpride box scraper, that my dealer said was recommended for the tractor. And my i was, but it not extreme duty by any means. I use mine for snow plowing and cleaning up wooded trails and pulling rocks, so i give it some hard use and after a year i had twisted over the rear scraper angle iron. So i repaired it with much heavy angle 3/8" with gussets, where they had originally had 1/4 with no gussets.

Mine was a Landpride BB1266 at 370lbs, the weight of it is good for the size and weight applied for digging or scraping but still not heavy enough, strength wise for a L series to me. I would recommend something similar to a Landpribe BB1566, which weighs 450lbs and is built a bit stronger. Hopefully this helps for a reference.

Save your money and the aggravation. I still well remember when I used box blade I had with larger tractor and first time hit stump bent the third arm mount all to pieces, was backing up. Best thing I ever did with box blade was finally bought one that was heavy enough to do the job and for the hp of my tractor. Had to beat a match tractor and implement.
