I had someone tell me a cub lt1042 at lowes is not the same as a cub lt1042 at a dealer (the dealer one being better) this does not sound right to me any comments on this? obviously a dealer should have better service and knowledge, but a better tractor? also is the lt2042 worth $1,000 more? can you pull a tiller with a lt2042?

For the lower end stuff like the cub 1000 series, buying from box stores is fine. It might complicate things for warranty work, but dealerships are still happy to make money for services no matter where you purchased the unit. The cub 1000 series is not designed to pull ground engaging equipment (tillers) or heavy trailers/carts. The 2042 will handle those and more.

I would expect to get the best service from the place that I purchase the unit from. That would tend to leave you at the dealer as the TSC stores offer no service. Those model tractors do not take any more then a light trailer behind them.
