This forum has inspired me to think outside the box; well, I don't ever think I have been in the box...
I hate planting; Specifically driving the steaks attaching the string to hoe a straight line. Knowing i was going to put in a large corn patch, (I love corn) I figures I could use my box blade to cheaply do this task.
I found some old flat steel and cut it into a "hoe" shape. Bent some threaded stock and mounted it onto two of the rippers. As the rippers are 1 foot apart, I can adjust the spacing of the rows.
total cost: 2.99 (plus ox-ace gas)
And to top off the photo's a hot babe in a swimsuit! (granddaughter)

Once again, no measuring devices were harmed in the making of this project...

man, that's a great idea......i planted my first garden the other day and was using a push plow....i thought, "there's got to be an easier way" and "man, i hope i never plant a BIG garden"

that soil looks good, BTW.....

Very nice idea. I did the string thing for 5 rows at about 80'/per row last week. I have 5 more rows to put in and may have to "borrow" that idea. I am looking at getting a planter for next year, nothing extravagant though.

Look's like the granddaughter is thoroughly enjoying herself while you are working away:D. You'll have to post some pics of her enjoying that corn later this summer.

Hey Sackett2, thanks also from Ontario as I was trying to think this through, just to make potato rows with a touch of hill to them prior to planting. I was thinking along the lines of a set of metal troughs to make two rows each pass, the plates on each side of a trough pushing soil into a bit of a pile. I'll post pics as I figure it out. Nice looking outbuilding in the background!

We must think alike. I didn't make my own like you did, but I bought 3 furrowers at the local Kubota dealer to do exactly what you did. I also bought some extra shanks, the longer ones, from Agri-Supply. But guess what ... I bought them almost 2 years ago and still haven't mounted them to the new shanks.
Glad to see you got out there and did it.

Darn it ! i couldve used that idea yesterday ! I used my cheapo lawn rider to mark rows and then hoe the rows manually. Last year i swore i would build something for a row marker but never did. Kudos to you getting it done!;)

That's my house!
It's a homemade log cabin built by my BIL in the 80's and added to 4 times. The things I could tell you about this little place is almost scary and funny.
to get from the backdoor to the kitchen you walked through the bathroom.
the bathroom had a large window, good thing there are no houses on that side.
There were no closets in the entire place
the 2 upper kitchen cupboards were 8" above the counter
the daughters room's door was inside the main bedroom
the backdoor was a inside door cut down to 5'
the front door (gate) was lapboard, no insulation.
The wiring was a mess.

When I came into the scene it had 5 roof lines, some leaking. Dad and I combined them into 2 roofs, did major work all around, from raising one corner of the house 3 inches, adding the fr porch, insulation. Next came the carport with the cement being pored one slab at a time with a home mixer. even the "Shed" was integrated into the building.
Anyway, I don't own this place, but wherever I live I will improve it.

Definitely nice "outbuildings"...
My Dad's barn used to be a log cabin, till somebody moved it to the barnyard and built a house up on top of the hill.
