I bought a agri ease post hole auger from TSC Canada this week (excited!), got it home and hooked up. The instructions are incredibly vague for setup. They say to check the oil level, but they don't indicate on the instructions *how* to check the oil. There's a bolt on the side of the gear box and one on the top. Looking in from the top there is oil in there, but not near the top bolt. I thought about checking the side bolt but want to figure out if this is a check or drain bolt before I lose a bunch of good oil by accident.

Also, how tight should the 3 pt stabilizers be on an auger?

Top hole is the fill hole.
The side hole, which should be approximately halfway up the side of the gearbox, is the oil level check hole.

I suggest you check out some of these EA vids on PHD "safety tips " and how to adjust etc PHD . Depending on the type of soil you might want to invest in a couple correct size shear bolts . Please remember SAFETY FIRST . Also make sure your PTO shaft came with the "shields" . If you want you can put me on the TBN safety patrolman squad or whatever guys use to call us back in the day , I dont give a rats azz but we dont like to hear about tractor related accidents or deaths . When by helping and educating ourselves here on TBN some at least can be avoided .

Congrats on your new PHD !

Thanks Alan! That's what I thought, but it was a long day and hate finding out the drain hole isn't the check hole.

Thanks! I have watched quite a few PHD safety videos, definitely well aware everyone stays FAR away from the moving parts.

The PTO does indeed have shields in place! Definitely appreciate the check in on that. The soil on my property is all over the place - a section of the property is glacial till, other parts clear 4 feet down. I definitely need to buy a number of shear bolts.

I've gotta read more of the PHD adjustment videos in a day or two. Big rain coming tomorrow so I'm just happy to have the thing hitched up for when things dry up.

My massey ferguson 1540 has a vertical set of 3 pt top link holes, the manual (checked today) is vague recommending which hole to put a PHD in, I think I have it in a good spot. I made a holder for it today, on top of the pallet it came on. Glad I did, bit of an effort to get it hooked up. (Always find first time is the hardest.)
