Brake controller installation question

I just recently bought a truck with a brake controller installed. I plan on taking this controller out and giving it to my brother. The question is this, he has a 96 GMC Sierra 1500 Z71, is it pre-wired for a controller? I noticed it has the wires taped to the frame that look to be for more than the standard 4 wire trailer light setup. Can I get a pigtail type plug and just wire it up that way or am I going to have to do it all?

The tow package has the extra wires needed for brake (blue 14 gauge) and 12volt always on (orange 10gauge). To see if the truck was equipped with the factory tow package look on the glove sticker for RPO code Z82 or just try and find the wires.

The two above described wires will come up the driver's side frame rail and up under the master cylinder where the orange wire may or may not be connected to one of the two auxilliary power studs under the black fuse cover on top of the driver's side fender near the firewall. You will see the slot for a 30 amp green maxi fuse.

The blue wire can be fed through the clutch hole since most of our trucks are automatics. There is no prewired plug for the brake controller under the dash until the 99 and up trucks. You will need to wire it yourself.

My guess would be NO! Having the wires taped to the frame leads me to believe the wires are from the plug end of the harness. From your description, it looks like the GMC has the standard 6 or 7 pin connector at the hitch end. The wires taped to the frame are from that connector. You would need to run the controller wires to those wires taped to the frame using the same color code from the controller. I believe the controller has 4 wires (Blue, Black, Red and White). There are a couple of diagrams on the web you can reference to hook-up the controller. You'll need a re-settable fuse, wire connectors, and wire to complete the hook-up. Not a difficult job but running the wires might be tricky.
