Does anyone know what the brake controller plug looks like and where it is located under the dash of a 2008 Ford F150? My Dad had Ford put a trailer hitch and a combo 4 and 7 way plug on the back of his new truck. Does that mean he will only have to plug in a controller under the dash? Thanks!

Can not do much better than a video. You will see it, its just under the steering column. You have to lay on your back to see it but putting in a controller in a Ford should be a 5 minute job. Just make sure they put the charge relay in the fuse box. It is what allows a battery on a trailer to accept a charge from the tow vehicle while it is running. The relay and the wire harness come with Fords that have the 7 pin plug from the factory. Since yours did not come with it the truck it may have been part of the package they ordered to upgrade the truck at the dealer.

OK, I think I found it, if it is gray and taped to the top of a wiring tube just to the right of the steering column. You are right I did have to lay on my back to see it. The trailer he has is a two axel 16' trailer with electric brakes on the rear axel and a two axel cattle trailer with brakes on both axels.

Diamondpilot, his trailer does not have a battery on the trailer so I guess he does not need the relay.

Any suggestions on which controller to buy?

Thanks!

The Prodigy is a good one for a quick install, about 5-10 minutes, but the best one on the market is the Max Brake. MaxBrake™ - Hydraulic over Electric Variable Brake Controller

Take a look at the site and you will see it works. It will take 1 hr to install. Works just like Fords factory installed brake controller.

I am curious if they upgraded or installed a tranny cooler at the same time as installing the hitch? I know that the tranny cooler is usually part of the tow packages when they come from the factory installed.

I'm pretty sure that no tranny cooler was installed, just the hitch and the 4&7 combo plug. I hope the transmission does't get too hot.

The Maxbrake controller looks perfect, but I don't think he will want to spend $350 when he tows once a month for about 15 miles. Thanks for the link I like the new concept.
