Finally got around to doing this project. Here is a simple wiring diagram if someone wants to do it too.

Mounted a security system switch on a peice of angle. Then mounted that to the brake lock lever. Mounted the magnet portion to the brake. I used a 12 mini bulb but you may want to use an LED. Don't know how long the switch will last with this bulb. The security switch is for much less of a load on it.

Here is the idiot light on. I tried to put where I will notice it as I'm shifting into a gear WITH the brake lock lever engaged

I assume the 12v positive source is from ignition right? That way your warning indicator isn't running all the time, but only when you are getting ready to 'take off'.

Soundguy.

Incidentally, that is what i finally did.. used the magnetic switches and a blinking red 12v led. I toyed with a feeler switch, but couldn't make it stay adjusted due to break wear, and spring tension, etc. The magnet idea is much better.
I put my magnet on the break pedal upright, and the switch on a bracket, very similar to yours, except that I didn't find a nice big magnet like you have, I had to use two smaller ones.
Nice job!

Soundguy,
That is an older magnet I dug out of the "alarm parts" bucket. Most security systems use much smaller magnets nowadays. But Radio Shck still has them this size as well. I think I will replace the lamp with an LED though. I just didn't have one handy yesterday.
