Brake-lock engine-idling mechanism/circuit not working...

Hi Folks,

On my TC-30 I have the (new) problem that I can't lock the brakes, put the machine into neutral (both gear controls) and get out of the seat without the engine turning off.

The seat-based engine shutdown mechanism and circuit seem to be fine because if either gear control is NOT in neutral and I get out of the seat, the engine shuts off, as expected.

So I think the problem must be in the mechanism/circuit of the brake lock. Without taking anything apart, I couldn't find anything to fix in that area: no wires or anything.

Can anyone advise me about how I might go about a repair for this? I don't really even know where to start and don't want to start taking things apart willy nilly.

I would first look for a loose or disconnected wire under the operator's platform for one of the safety switches, such as the brake. After that I would start isolating each switch, looking for a bad one. You can use a meter to check continuity or use a wire to jump around each switch. I would start with the seat switch.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was just a switch sticking on the parking brake.

The seat switch is okay (kills engine if either gear control is NOT in neutral, as expected).

Do any of you folks know where I can locate and get to the brake-lock switch? I assume that's the one that's faulty.

Any New Holland dealer can get (or has in stock) the brake switch. Might want to be sure the wiring to the switch is ok before you buy parts you might not need.
