Ford 601 Workmaster
I have a Ford 601 Workmaster 1961 and the right brake pedal is about 2-3 inches lower than the left. Consequently when you put your foot on the brake you are always using just the left brake because that pedal is higher than the right. Both brakes work fine it is just that the pedals are offset so much from each other. Is there some way to adjust them to make the pedals even with each other so you will use the brakes evenly? The right brake pedal seems to have a lot of play in it when I lift it up with my hand. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I found that on my tractor the brake lining was very thin on one side only, seeing that I don't drive my tractor too fast and parts are sometimes hard to get, I installed some real heavy leather to make new linings and contact cemented them on, that was last summer(2009, I only intended to use it till I ordered the proper shoes, was working so much better than before I left it as is and used it hard all last winter plowing snow and then part of this year before we moved to this new place...... still stops the tractor on a dime so to say, or the other, if it ain't broke don't fix it.....Ampa

There is a turnbuckle adjustment on the brake rod that you can use to adjust the brake travel so they are both even if the brakes are working ok, just pull the cotter pin and run the adjustment out or in depending on what you need. You may have to also adjust the other brake pedal to match. Should be a quick fix.

Can anyone tell me how to adjust brakes on Ford 600? I assume it has a "star adjuster" but dont know which direction to turn adjuster. Also would like to know where and how to adjust pedal height on right side.

I do not remember which way the adjuster turns. For height I just adjust the brakes until the pedals are level and stop the tractor without hitting the floor, if they squeal when driving then you adjusted them too tight. Tractor drum brakes are not a precise instrument, the drum brakes can barely stop the tractors anyhow, that is why there are so many that have dented hoods.
