Brake release on JD 770 compact tractor?

How do you release the brake lock on a John Deere 770 utility/compact tractor? Just got it. When trying to back up it dies as if the brake is on somehow. Thanks anyone.

Your 770 should have a Brake return spring and it may be broke. Hope this link will help you some with parts.

Push hard on the brake pedals ( locked together) and pull up the little lever below the steering wheel on the right side of the column. Seems to take more force to take the brakes off than put them on.

I agree with Crashz. I had a JD 790 and the brake lock worked the same way. First day I had it I had to call dealer to send a gorilla out to release the lock!

Don't you push the brake lock lever down to release it? Or am I confused? But yes, you do have to push hard on the pedals if the break was set firmly. The pedals should come all the way up if released.
