I've just acquired a real nice little Cub 154 Loboy, but it needs a little routine maintenance .... right now, the most important issue is brakes. Has anyone ever had to replace brakes on one of these, and how big a deal is it? This is the International version (1974 as far as we can tell), not the Farmall type.
The parking brake lever has little effect, too, but I think that's part of the brake issue.

You can go to Carter and Gruenwald's site Carter and Gruenewald Company, Inc. to see the parts blowup for the 154 brakes. (Go to parts for Cub Cadet.) It appears to be a very simple setup, using the pedal, an equalizer, two rods and adjustment yokes, and a pair of lined bands as the brake lining. It might be possible to shorten the adjustment between the rods and yokes to adjust the brakes if the linings aren't worn out. The parking and service brakes are all one in the same system on the tractor.
Here is a good discussion group for the Cub Low-Boys:

Hey, thanks for the quick comeback! I kinda came by this little tractor by default (a customer of ours defaulted, and this was about all we got out of it!), but it's all straight and solid, with a great Woods 60" deck - just needs a little paint and TLC. It'll be a good project tractor.
I'll check out those sites!
