branson 2400h hydrostatic issues

Howdy- new member here.
I have a 2400h I bought used and partially disassembled so was unable to drive before buying. Tractor had tore up ring and pinion in rear end. Tore it all apart and replaced ring and pinion. Problem is reverse seems to work ok but having issues going fwd.. There is no adjustment on linkage for hst control other then centering the controls so it does not creep fwd or reverse. fwd occasionally works at low idle and low fwd pedal movement. Higher rpm or move pedal it will stop moving. Everything online points to relief valves in hst. But as far as I can tell they are ok.. Anyone have any ideas. A new hst is about 4 grand. Thanks.

Do you get any strange noises when trying to go forward vs reverse. Feel any resistance on pedal? Is this in both low and hi range?

Possible silly question but is clutch adjusted properly and not slipping? On this the model the clutch drives the HST pump.

Required bleeding Depends on the circuit.
Some circuits have a cooling - flushing valve that bleeds flow out of the. HST loop. These self bleed rather quickly

I think this HST has “neutral” valves that slightly increase the “dead band - peddle movement” before the tractor starts to move or at least my 2400H does. These work to bleed the HST circuit also.

With charge pump it should operate or very noisy trying to move.

at first there was some cavitation like noises. Not so much now. I removed the floor cover and can see the driveshaft spinning. Only resistance i think is from the pedal springs. THanks

Yeah its pretty much self bleeding. I do wonder if starting it after being completely drained may cause some damage. The charge pump runs through the oil cooler on the front then back to the hst. It does have neutral valves for fwd and reverse. These allow a little bypass in neutral so you do not creep. I swapped those and it did not make any difference. I am thinking the charge pump may not be putting out enough pressure. I took the hst apart and saw nothing obvious. Other then some wear on the surface behind the charge pump gear. I may bypass the cooler and see if that makes any difference. Just for troubleshooting. Wish I could find some used relief valves to swap. New ones are not cheap and take months to get. Thanks

Not sure on that model but can you lift the transaxle cover - seat pan assembly to see if the motor output is spinning?

On mine the oil cooler has standard JIC fittings so could install a gauge there to see charge pressure. I think supposed to be around 100 PSI but not positive of that.

Thats a good idea. I think I can remove the cover plate from over the transmission and look. The cover over the rear end has a hyd pipe going into it with a banjo bolt so that would not really work. I need to get a gage but I did not see in the manual what the pressure was supposed to be. I am 90 percent sure the hst is shot. The hyd oil was nasty when I tore it apart. Racking my brain wondering if I messed up putting the transmission and rear end back together. But there are no gear changes fwd to reverse just the hst. Thanks..

There is the hi-lo - neutral range selector lever on the left fender. Are you sure it is in lo or hi range?

Yes thanks. Its better in low of course but does it in both.
