I've never had to do this but I have seen mechanics punch a hole in the filter to release any pressure, they seem to come off pretty easy after that.

My go-to wrench is the type with 2 half moon pieces of spring loaded metal. They bite in well. For problem filters, a chain wrench works well.
If the filter has the keyed slots near the gasket (like hydraulic and trans filters) tapping or air hammering with a punch works well.
Good luck!

When I did the first service on my Branson the oil filter was just extremely tight but I got it off with the cap style filter wrench. The hydraulic filter was so tight that I ended up using a chisel and hammer on the base flange to get it started turning after trying strap wrenches, chain wrenches and actually collapsing the sides of the filter, tried punching a hole using a big screw driver and tore a slot in it, I was making a lot of comments that day on the parentage of the individual that put it on. :mur: some days but then it gets better.
Good luck

I use the three finger style that tightens as you turn on my 2400H. Strap wrench on the hydraulic filters.

Not just Branson, all the new equipment I buy has the same problem. Get a suitable filter wrench and get after it. I have about 8 to fit different filters and different access points. When I put the new ones on, I abide by the セ turn instructions including wetting the seal. While I'm at it I fill with oil to ensure a good wet start of the engine. Yet to have one leak or fall off....been at it over 60 years.

For a replacement filter I always liked the ones that have a hex welded to bottom ... I believe WIX makes some, but probably not of specific filter you need...

If you read the Branson forum (on this site) some have had issues with non OEM filters on the hydraulics.
For the little extra I just go with Branson filters.
You can even order from some dealers online.
