It will help once we figure out what model you have. Right now, you mention 2540, 2440 and 3530 and none of those are Branson models.
Is it the 3520? The older 20 series had some issues with the brake pivot shaft that enters the axle housing would get moisture and rust making it stick. Best thing without taking it apart to clean the shaft and possibly add a grease zerk is to keep spraying it with some sort of penetrating fluid of your choice till it loosens up and then with some sort of lubricant.
