I am getting familiar with my new tractor and it all seems to be working well but I am confused by one feature. Where the lift links meet the lower links there is an adjustable plate which the manual says is for vertical float. One position allows float, the other locks it out but it doesn't say which? When I got the tractor home from the dealer the rotary was installed and one of the float plates was vertical the other horizontal, doesn't seem right. Also the telescopic stabilizer links were set to different holes. Appreciate any help. Thanks.

There's a Branson-specific subforum.

When the rectangular piece is horizontal it locks in to the arm, when it's vertical it doesn't so the pin can float. Play with it with an implement off and you'll see how it works.

The holes you use on the stabilizer links depends on the width of the implement where the arms attach. (note that some holes allow float).
When I attach an implement I leave the stabilizers loose, lift the implement and position it by hand, then put the pin in that side. On the other side I push the implement towards the center and then put the pin in the closest hole. Often they're not in the same hole. None of my implemlents need to be exactly centered. Sometimes I shove the mower over to the tractor's right to make it a bit easier to see when mowing backwards. As long as the PTO shaft's not at too much of an angle and nothing hits the tires it's not a problem. Note that my method of setting the stabilizers is best done on level ground especially if the implement is heavy. If the tractor's leaning sideways the implement will fall to the low side if you pick it up with the stabilizers unpinned. I did that by mistake with a 1000 lb chipper on the back. I'm not shoving that up hill.

I've yet to have a use for either float but I'm sure there's some use cases for them. Maybe for plowing you'd want some side to side float on the stabiiizers to let the plow move a bit when it hits rocks.

Thanks for the quick response. I did what you said and it makes the process really easy, great advice. Pity about the user manual! Great tractor shabby documentation.
