Hey Folks,

I've been having an problem with the cruise magnet since I got the tractor. The cruise control will engage, but any back pressure on the hydrostatic pedal causes the pedal to slip even when the magnets are engaged. I tried de-greasing and wire brushing the plate, and de-greasing the magnets. I have also checked that both magnets are engaging, which they are. I tried loosening the nut so that the magnet can extend as far out at the metal plate as possible, but it just steadily slips over a short period of time. I have released a lot of pressure off the return springs to try to reduce the pedal fatigue when not in cruise control. It does not take much effort to push the pedals around manually while cruise control is engaged

Is it possible the magnets are faulty, or am I not getting enough power to them?

It's possible you have an intermittent bad connection to the magnets. Does it seem like the magnets slip when you hit a bump, rock or hole while traveling? Loose wire connector or loose/poor connection at fuse block?

The gap between the magnet and the plate should be 1.5 mm. You might confirm that is to spec, if you haven't already done that.

The magnet slips when going straight without any bumps, but it slips a bit faster with a load on the pedal. I have res-eated and even swapped the cables between the 2 magnets, I haven't checked voltage to them yet, but was planning on it when I can find my multimeter.

I haven't checked the gap for 1.5 mm, I just let them where they can go as near as possible to see if that would make a different, I will try gapping them and see if it makes a difference.

The service manual does a horrible job of covering the adjustment of the hydrostatic pedals. It is covered on pages 6-109 thru 6-111, and doesn't address the common issues I see presented on this forum. My problems are somewhat the reverse of yours. My pedals tend to stay where they are at and very, very slowly come back to neutral unless you press the opposite pedal (without cruise control engaged). I don't know of anything to do other than adjust the return spring tension (which doesn't seem to help). It would be helpful if their were someone who knew more about how to change the attributes of the HS pedal system.

I had a similar problem with the pedals, I found that there's no grease zerk for them so I had to hit them with lubricant spray once in a while where they pivot underneath the floorboard, which is partially why I degreased the plate and magnets in case that was interfering.

If I leave the key on without the tractor started, then put it in gear, press the heydrostatic pedal and engage cruise control, it will hold position, but it's not hard for me to press the pedal forward or backward with the magnet holding it

Can someone post some pictures of the linkage for the petals back to the transmission. Sounds like the two problems could be related.

Somewhere along the linkage there may be nut on a pivot point that allows adjustments to the petal tension. Cougs may be set too tight and Ceaster may be set too loose. Just a though.

Here are some pictures out of the manual that show the whole set-up. I would mention none of this stuff is easy to access.

Thank you for posting that. In my case the cam that controls neutral position is working fine, the pedal springs back into position as expected, and I released tension off the spring to avoid fatigue. I didn't get a chance to adjust the magnet distance to 1.5mm yet, but I would think that butting the magnet almost up against the plate would only make it stronger. There's always an amount of pressure coming back on the hdryo pedals when the machine starts to bog down going up a slope or the implement you are pulling causes resistance, that seems to be when the magnet can't handle holding position, I can watch the RPM's steadily climb down when in cruise control just going in a straight line on even terrain.

I will adjust it once the weather we are having here calms back down and I will post a picture of the magnets and how they are fitting up.
