I have a 2013 5220C that I absolutely love but I have an issue I'd like some advice on. I'm mechanically inclined but I am not familiar with the brake systems on tractors. The left pedal on my Branson will apply the brake when pressure is applied but then the pedal stays depressed when I take my foot off of it. I can then use my toe to pull it back up and all is well. Are the brakes on these tractors similar to a drum brake on a truck? If they are I'd assume I lost a tension spring inside the hub.?. Any advice as to what may be wrong and whether I should attempt to fix this myself or take it to a dealer would be greatly appreciated!

Sincerely,
Scott

These tractors have wet brakes, this means there is a series of discs inside each axle housing, pretty much like a clutch pack, running under the oil. When you press the pedal, it compresses everything together and stops the tractor.

Start by lubricating all the linkages from the brakes. There is a couple grease zerks for the pedals, that I believe are not mentioned on the manuals.

They usually freeze up at the rear most pivot. Pull the rear wheel for easier access.

your brake system should have neutral return spring on the pedal linkage if this broke it will do what you are describing, i've seen this a few times over the last few years

Thank you to all for your time and input. I'll start pursuing your fixes tonight after work.

If you have long arms, you can reach the brake pivot grease fitting from the back. I can just get on mine from crouched behind the rear tire. I certainly wouldn't take off the rear tire for it. That's just ridiculous. If you can't reach from the back, you should be able to reach it from underneath. My left one started sticking too, and I had been missing that grease fitting during my routine maint.
