why try brazing at all.. if no gas bottles, but you do have a welder.. just weld it...???

What you want to do is certainly feasible on an old transformer based AC buzzbox stickwelder such as a Lincoln tombstone, Miller Thunderbolt, Craftsman, Ward's Pwr Kraft, etc. by building or buying a Twin Carbon Arc Torch.

Unfortunately your little Mig welder is a 1 trick pony although it does that one trick very well (weld thin metal). In comparison a stick welder is a much more versatile tool in that it can weld, cut metal crudely with 6011 rods, Heat metal for bending, Free rusted nuts, solder, braze, improvise flame fill weld (all via the Twin carbon arc torch and do it nearly for the mere cost of electricity which is cheap compared to buying expesive gas).

In my barkyard shop my wire feeder would go long before my buzzbox as I can do more with the buzzbox albeit some of it will be crude. Good news is you can pick up a used buzzbox for $75 to $125 although I would spend a little more and get an AC/DC version buzzbox then you can even add a scratch start tig rig to that for thin stuff.

If you want to know more about a Twin Carbon Arc torch, here is a link that I have posted lots of pics, links, videos in:

You can do it with a Steel or Stainless filler rod. I have goofed around and tried stick rods, bronze brazing rods and silicon bronze. Wont work. I can however tell you how to make your little Lincoln into a Scratch Start Tig Welder if that would help..

Like others have said, why not just weld it, if it is only steel to steel?A small MIG welder like yours can weld very thin metal easier and quicker than brazing.I can't imagine metal being so thin that it can be brazed but not MIG welded. The only thing to be sure of is to use MIG wire with shielding gas,not flux core especially if you are using it without gas.Yes,I have done brazing but hardly ever find the need to use it anymore.I think you are over thinking this.

I have a miller 135 with flux core wire I can nearly weld as thin metal with it as I can 75/25 mix with my miller 210
