Here is a project that I completed in the fall and plan on continuing this summer all the way to the other end of the house. Couldn't have done it without my Kubota B7500. Yes, this little machine unloaded those blocks of granite curbing from my landscape trailer and moved them across the yard to the worksite!

There used to be a wood deck on the back of the house, took that off, and dug out the loam with the FEL, brought in processed gravel, the granite, the stone dust, then the used bricks. I just need to find some more granite curbing.

Its projects like these that makes my wife appreciate my toys...ugh, I mean tools.

That is a nice job.

Looks like you got the bricks laid good and level.

tmiller,
Not sure what the blocks granite weigh. But I can tell you the Bota was struggling with some of them. The ones that fit in the bucket, 36" to 46", no problem. However a few pieces were 5' long, 8-10" thick, and 18" wide. These blocks I had to pick up with a chain, got them just a few inches off the ground, and the ends sort skimmed up and down on the ground as I went along. I had to move them about 50 yards across the back yard. The biggest one I had to use the FEL to keep flipping it across the lawn to get it into place. I actually managed to get it into place without much damage to the lawn. At any rate, I'm very impressed with the B7500 (once again).

Beautiful. Wish I had some granite blocks like that - let's say a truck load or so:)

Nice job!..............I like the granite edging.......I used barnstone. The only problem is that it only leads to more patio........my wife is busy planning phase 2.

Looks nice, I want to do a patio this spring so thanks for the ideas, I've only done small brick paver projects in the past, this one will be pretty big, not sure what I'll use yet, may be to big for brick, I had a line on some large 2" + blue stone/slate. that would make things go faster.

Whatever you do before you put anything down........dig the area down at least 8" and put 2A modified limestone in and tamp. You will hold a better drainable surface with 2A modified then with other gravel. Then put 1" - 2" of sand for bedding the stone. The sand will not sift through the 2A either so less waste.

I agree about digging down and putting down the gravel then tampering. I did this with my Kubota. Then I went with stone dust rather than sand, but I have seen people use both in the past with equal success. I like the way stone dust packs and levels on top of the gravel. I used water and my tractor's weight to pack down the gravel and then the stone dust. I put a large patio in just like mine over 20 years for someone and it is still in great shape, even with the heavy freezes/frost heaving we are prone to in Little Rhody.
