Gentlemen
Last November I went into my local mower dealer and asked if a seal could be ordered for a 25 year old B+ S vertical shaft engine and did the seal go on from the outside or in from the lower case. The sales rep was not sure, but could he sell me a new tractor.
I brought the tractor home from 100 miles away and pulled the engine, and read the engine code. I went on the B+S site and downloaded the engines parts list. There was my lower oil seal, yesterday I went to the exact same dealer with the same sales rep and ASKED for a 11 HP oil seal and this is the parts list from the B+S site. He never even looked at the list and walked in the back and returned with the exact seal number. I installed it in 5 minutes.
The sales rep was old enough to know where to look and smooth enough to not be sure how to find a part.
My advice is to pull the parts sheets from the web site in a hope to keep the dealers more honest. Or find a more trusting dealer.
