Briggs Extended Life engines......torque?

This isn't necessarily Cub related, but since there are quite a few knowledgable people here, I was hoping you could help me a little....

My Dad and I looked at Everrides this weekend (for him). They have a sale right now on the Warrior models with the B&S Extended Life series 26 hp engine. Looks to be a fairly well-made ZTR, but the Briggs unit - although rated at 26 hp - puts out only around 33 ft/lbs of torque (if I remember correctly). The rest of the Warrior lineup (including the 25 hp Kohler) put out around 40-44 ft/lbs....

Does anyone have any insight to the amount of bogging you could expect to eliminate with the extra 8 or 10 lbs? I would assume it to be substantial. Although my dad rarely mows either deep or wet grass, he does mulch - and sometimes bag - a tremendous amount of leaves. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

My advice here is mainly just a humble opinion... Briggs and Stratton has not made a small engine that has impressed me, and I avoid products using their engines. But, to be honest I have heard from here-say that the Briggs Vanguards are truly a decent, long life, smooth running engine worth consideration. So, if this engine they are calling an, "extended life," on the Everride is the Vanguard and not the cheapo Briggs Intek, it might be worth considering. Also be aware that Kohler has two lines of engines now, the long life rated, "Command," and the economy lesser rated lifespan, "Courage," models.

I would avoid any Briggs engines that aren't the Vanguard models. I have a Vanguard on a generator and it's been excellent but I consider the rest of the B&S line to be cheap disposable engines since that's been my past experience with them.

Very much appreciate the replies. The engine was indeed the ELS, which I saw after a little research is a dressed-up Intek. We'll definitely be steering away from that one.

I am, however, impressed with what I've seen of the Everide mowers. Never driven one, but they appear to be quite comparable to the Hustler Super Z, at a price point around $1500 less. They're apparently made in Nebraska by ACI - a fabrication company which has been an OEM supplier for the commercial mower market for quite some time, and in fact is the new manufacturer for John Deere's stand-up landscaping ZTR (model name escapes me.) They've purchased the manufacturing/branding rights to the Great Dane series of ZTRs as well.

Anyway, I know nothing of the company outside of a little online research, and I'm two days away from my new CC 3100, so definitely not in the market for a ZTR for myself. Still found the mowers interesting nonetheless. Thanks again!
