Hi All,
I have a 5 acre field that has been bush hogged every year but other then that no other maintenance has been done to it, Here is what I am thinking ( I'm all new to this) Turn the field over with a moldboard plow, put down my fertilizer let it sit for a couple weeks then go over the field with a tiller, finishing it all off with a Cultipacker. Please as I said I am new to this. Any and all help/suggestions are welcome.
Thanks
Jordan

Depends on what you are wanting to grow in the field.

I take it that you have had soil samples tested to determine the appropriate lime & fertilizer application rates for the crop(s) you will be planting.

About an acre is going to be mixed food plot the rest will be clover

I planted a food plot with Ladino clover a couple of years ago. I did a soil sample, disked it, applied the appropriate fertilizer, and sowed it. Came up great. I live in the middle of several thousands of acres of farm land. They don't mould board plow around here. They just disc and plant no-till.

I am not sure if a Disc will break up the ground due to how long it has been untouched. Thoughts?

There is a reason that farmers have quit mould board plowing.

"a disc" ? THere are many discs, some that won't do diddly and some that will cut like butter. I'm assuming you have a light tractor, if so a bottom plow first then a small disc will work good.

Ya that is what is worrying me, but from the feed back I'm getting i think it is doable

I have an old 7' Ferguson disc. This thing must weigh 700 pounds. It has adjustable gangs. It is all my little B7800 can handle in 4WD with the gangs full out. Soil conditions have to be just right. Not too wet. Not to dry. But when the conditions are right this old Ferguson disc will flat boil the ground down to 6" deep.
