Picked these heads last week! That's a 8" dinner plate in the pic.
I have always loved Broccoli! I can remember calling it "Trees" when I was a kid and my Mother would serve it.
I pressure cook it then coat it with Velvetta/Butter sauce.
I bought 9 plants from ACE Hardware, when I grow it from seeds it just doesn't get as big and comes out woody.
I am now cutting the secondary heads. I blanch it and freeze it in zip lock bags.

So how do you keep the little green worms off of it? I always end up with more worms than broccoli, which is significantly less tasty.

I could never taste the worms until I saw them. They do add protein. I love broccoli. These are nice looking heads.

It'll never take the place of okra...but nice work on your part. Don't know how you grow it in Florida; it gets too hot here.

Those are some nice heads! To keep the green worms off, I sprinkle them with Garden Guard. Every time it rains, it has to be done again.
It will be a couple more weeks before I can even plant, since we just had 10 inches of snow yesterday! The forcast is saying down to 17 tonight, a new record low. This has got to be one of the latest springs in recent memory!

2Lane;

I grow it here, but the trick is getting it in the ground no later than the first couple of days of February. I have already harvested mine, as I knew the day we would hit 90 last week, it would bolt.

I'm not a fan of broccoli, but the dogs love it, fresh or steamed! Gives me variety for their meals. Yes, I cook for my dogs. Too many pet food recalls, and the dogs look better with fresh, healthy food, so no pre-processed stuff here.

Okay Stimw. . . now you're just braggin!;) Of course that's okay. If I could grow broccoli like that, I'd be braggin' too. Those leaves on your plants look super healthy.
