I broke a grease fitting off on my FEL 402, on one of the pins at the bucket. I am hoping it is as simple as manuvering the loader pin out and getting my local dealer to help me get out the grease fitting remants/putting in a new grease fitting.

Can the loader pin be backed out after removing the retaining bolt? Can I leave my loader on when doing this (obviously the tractor would be out of action until the pin got refitted)? Can I just set the bucket on the ground and back the pin out?

Thanks for your help

Recently repalced a broken loader grease fitting the other day. Buy an easy out, tap it in, and carefully spin on a correct angle/ axis and it will come out. Install new fitting and you are back in action. FYI, the pin I was working on was about $40 if worse came to worse and needed to replace pin, easy out was about $12 with turning handle + bit and the grease fittings are about $1 or less each. Grease is your best friend.

Good luck, no major problem. Remember, this may not be the last time you do this so the easy out is nice to have just in case.

Also, remember to get the correct size easy out bit so you don't damage the threads on the pin.

Do like Crutisfarmer says and you'll be fine. I had to do the same thing on two wheels on my mower deck, and had no problems. If you lived in Jefferson County Ohio, I would come over and give you a hand, but Jefferson County Wva is a little too far away.
Good luck.

Yep, I, too, busted a FEL grease fitting, actually twice...

There is a spring that stays in the hole.... gotta go in there with needle nose pliars to get it out... since it is covered in grease, hard to see but it prevents the easy out from going into the broken fitting.

For me, both busted zerks backed out with little problem.

I now have an assortment of zerks from Harbor Freight... less than $4 as I recall for a whole bunch.

This has been discussed previously on TBN... a hint is to loosten the end of your grease gun fitting... so it comes OFF the zerk a little easier:D

HI Sniggle
Get the square kind of easy out: the thing with the spiral kind is not that they may not break off, but when and how expensive the part they broke off in is.
Also remember the name "Easy out" is a manufacturer's term, not a user's term.

I have broken off both the bottom fittings on the loader arm/bucket of my B7800.:(

I didn't have a problem getting the remnants out with a screw extractor but I can't figure out what size fitting is the right one.

I bought some Kubota 1/4" ones and they were too big. Then I bought some 3/16' ones and they were still too big for the bottom fttings. The fitting on the pins on the top part of the loader arm/bucket were 1/4'.

Based on the attached 402 FEL manual I would assume the bottom fittings are 1/8"? Can someone please confirm?

Harbor Freight, if you have one, has a kit of fittings, numerous sizes, for less than $5 if I recall... suggest you get that. I give it a 85% chance that they have the size you need.

If you own equipment with grease fittings then this is a must have little tool for your tool box. It's a grease fitting tool. Has a broken fitting remover, thread restorer, and built in wrench and driver.

You can pick one up at most any parts store, TSC or hardware store.

DieselPower - thanks. I did discover that tool at the local Princess Auto and picked it up.

Figured I would bite the bullet and get a proper tap wrench and the right sized tap and a box of assorted grease fittings so I'd be prepared for the next bad fitting as well :)

I was not able to find any cutting oil in less than a gallon jugs - which is more than I will probably use in a lifetime. I'm guessing I'll be fine with a bit of grease or motor oil?
