Glad you got the repairs done and think it wise to add some protection.

I’m not a logger but have to work with trees on the farm. I do see a trend in tractor manufacturers making their tractors sexy and comfortable. Nothing wrong with that and I’m sure they know better than me on how to make money. I do see many areas of design and engineering improvements that would help improve the tractors operation function. Hopefully you can figure out how to better protect the tender innards from being damaged from a twig. Seen some nice work from others detailing similar modifications.

I can better appreciate the design ethic on older tractors built to use and last. Wonder if the same will be said of new tractors today 50-60 years from now?

I dented one of my hydraulic filters somehow. When I noticed that I decided to build a skid plate. I also improved the protection at the FEL and 3rd function valves. I designed it so I can remove a side screen and change the hydraulic filters. The entire skid can be removed fairly easily. Bolts to already threaded holes in the trans/axle housings. I did not include the fuel tank area.

Paul Short is your guy if you want to purchase something. Exceptional quality!!!

We as owners/operators have to accept responsibility for the differences in older tractors and today's models. Our consumer demands added complexity and vulnerability to the tractors of today.

A gallon coffee can would easily hold all of the wiring harness of my 1984 Ford. Levers and heavy duty linkage control features rather than switches and wiring.

Now pulling a lever is too much work. We just want to push a button.

On my previous 10 year old cab L5740 with WR Long third function ,
all the lines were tucked in and not very vulnerable. On the newer models looks like everything is hanging out there...
Local welding shop told me they were on their third new Kubota sent to them by local dealer to put on protective steel guards.
Wondering whether emission control on new models hogged up room previously used to hide the lines. ?

There is discussion on skids for M95xx the 100hp next size above my M7060. He built real skid plates 1/2" and braced, you could hang the tractor up on his. I'm going lighter, I don't expect crashing into stumps or rocks, just don't want the sticks my brush hog wacks down getting into the soft spots, so radiator, FEL valves, fuel tank, so say 1/4" bottom and 1/8" sides, and expanded on radiator.
