broke steering shaft on 52\' 8N

After using the tractor all day on friday, I pulled into the barn, and just as I stopped, my steering wheel came off, with about a foot of the steering shaft.

It wouldn't be so bad if you didn't have to nearly completely disassemble the tractor to get to the steering box... /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Anyway, am now waiting for the machinist to repair my steering shaft. ho hum....

Sorry to hear that!!! I know how hard you've worked on your 8N. I've got to admit, that I've never heard of that happening before!!! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Apparently it isn't a common problem.. but when they do break.. nearly all break right down where the shaft meets the work gear.

Anyway, I just got the shaft back from the machinish.. and I have it setting in an oil bath till I can get to re-installing it this weekend ( hopefully ).
