Here are some pictures of my broken clutch return spring. I have to get new one (of course) but is there any advice to how to remove the shroud with the least amount of pain? I need to remove the shroud to replace the spring.

The spring is located under the shroud (when it is not broken). The clutch works fine (I simply have to hold it back/up with my foot.). My foot cramps after doing it for hours. :D I learned this on Saturday. I had 10 truck loads of rock arrive that I had to spread. I got very good at holding it up with my foot.

You don't have to remove either cowl. Remove the instrument panel, disconnect it and set it aside. Remove all the screws from the upper (gray) cowl. Block the pedal up against the upper stop. Lift and rotate the cowl counter-clockwise as much as possible and work through the hole the dash panel mounts in. Connect the spring to the lower hook and use either a loop of wire or long pliers on the upper spring hook, extend the spring and attach it. You have to hold your tongue just right!

I am working on tongue exercises now! :D
Thanks, Bob

PS Should I buy a spare spring?

I would think not. I can only remember installing two.

Thanks, was a real shock when it broke! I don't need it to happen again.

Anything made by humans can break; when one does break; it does not mean it will be a constant breaking problem. If you break a few quickly; you have another problem. Looking at your pictures, the spring "just" broke.

Rick, just replaced the spring! Thanks! You saved me hours of messing around. Spring is working great and just spent two hours messing around moving stuff.
