Broken GC2610 Rate Control

Has anyone else had a misplaced foot break the rate contol? Since the day I saw the location of that knob I knew it was going to get broken off sooner or later and sure enough, other night I stepped on it and it snapped right off. Worse, it looks like you have to pull the deck and tank to replace the thing.

Mine broke within 6 mos of ownership. Luckily the dealer replaced it under warranty. The shaft actually broke(cast junk) which involved quite a bit of labor to replace. This location of the knob is poorly engineered. I have since made a bushing to support the knob so lateral loads will not be placed on the shaft.

Funny you mention your fix. I was talking to the dealer about it yesterday. They aren't replacing it under warranty because of the way it broke, but I told them it was a stupid azz design and wondered why there was never a support bushing added. When I get around to changing mine that will certainly be on the agenda.
