Today I broke the end of the mounting end of the shaft on my mid-mount blade's hydraulic cylinder. I called the dealer and he said it was special order and $275!!!!!

Anyone got a good source for hydraulic cylinders? I'll post a picture of it later...

Could the peace be welded back on?

Unreal - I walked the drive (625 Ft.) and actually found the broken end in the dirt! I'm not sure if it can be welded or not, but I've posted some pictures and maybe someone here can offer an opinion.

I was thinking of cutting the end of the ram and drilling a new hole. thoughts?

Anything the dealer doesn't stock they call special order and charge more for it. Go to a hydraulic shop. They can make a new rod for it and reseal it for less than that.

Drilling a new hole will change the throw of the blade...you said it's a mid mount blade?

Follow WCH's advice and go to a local hydraulic shop.

I'm not aware of any hydraulics shops around my area. I will call around and get a quote on your advice.

As for the cut and drill repair, throw is not critical to me. I figure as this ram is for lateral angle and not lift that there's not a lot of risk. As long as I can manage the retraction of the cylinder so it doesn't return too far, it could save me a lot of money...

Extend the rod to keep the heat away from the seal and cover it to protect against scratches and weld spatter . Cut the end back behind the old hole so it is straight . Buy a new rod eye and Mig weld it on . $60 all up if you get a shop to weld it on for you tops .

OK, I'll check into hydraulics shop and welding.

What about non-oem replacements? I have NO IDEA what the rating is for the cylinder (tons, pressures, etc). Is there anything I need to know, or just find one that is physically close to the right dimensions?
