Kubota B6000
Help..I broke something in the front end of my Kubota B6000 when I was pushing snow with the FEL. It is a cast piece that the ring gear bolts to. Would this be considered the "center section"? or carrier? It is/was sort of bell shaped....what is the proper name for this part and does anyone have any thoughts on where I would find one? I haven't checked with the local Kubota dealer since it is Saturday nite. I haven't unbolted the ring gear yet and I am not really sure how to get the rest of it apart. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

G'day what you have broken is the diff carrier you will need to unbolt everything off it to be able to rebuild it, you may want to price a second hand unit from a wrecker before you price a new unit dont forget that while you are in there you would replace all the bearings & seals and that when you rebuild a diff that there is backlash and bearing preloads to get right too best of luck:)

Welcome to TBN!!

Be especially minefull of Jon's statement about the backlash needing to be "right". Setting up a rear/front end is not exactly as easy as it might seem. Where the gears meet on each face matters and could mean the difference between a few days and many years of happy service from the rebuilt unit.
Best of luck finding a used unit, might be a good idea to look for a complete tractor with a blown motor or something, so you could just unbolt the axle and install it in yours after double checking the gear ratio.
Is yours the "grey market" version of the B6000? If so, parts may be even harder to find, but hopefully not.

thanks guys....I went to the Kubota dealer today and they have a new piece ordered...$86. I didn't think that was bad at all. I remember watching my dad and brothers set up gears. they used some blue dye and you have to get the half moon mark to imprint "just so" as you said. If I can't get it to look right, I will take it to someone more experienced before I put it back together. I'll let you know how it turns out. I also ordered new bearings. They were $12 each. I don't know if they come with shims, but I have the original ones to work with. I don't think my tractor is a grey market.....or at least I don't think it is. The decals are all in English.

If it was a grey market one; your dealer would not be able to get you parts.

I've owned two B6000E's, I hear about grey market but I don't believe the B6000 or the B6000e's were grey market, dealers always fully suppported me. I think they were either the first or one of the first models imported to the us.

Great little tractor.

Mostly supported, I know there are some internal motor parts, like connecting rods no longer available.

We have one, the B6000 was the first tractor that Kubota brought to the US. It did not sell very good, because of the tell-tail PTO. It spins opposite of US tractors, so no other attachments would fit it. You can still get some parts for them, but not all. Take care of it.

I noticed that the ring gear is wearing towards the outside edge. Should'nt that be wearing more towards the middle?
Just wondering...

G'day well picked up Tony (must admit i did not look too close at pics) that is a pinion that is too far out, that contact patch should be closer to the centre of the tooth even slightly to the inside as the pinion will want to push away from the centre of the diff as it works. By the way how are you going with it??:)

sorry to see your tractor is broken.. i have a B6000 as well, i have the FEL, but no backhoe... sure wish i could find one though.

hey, did you know that 'golds gym' 45 pound weights fit right inside the rims like hubcaps.. axle slips right through the hole with maybe 1/8 inch gap all the way around.. like factory fit.. FYI. i have 2 of them on each rear wheel, on the outside.. the kubota 66 pounders on the inside... i put 2 25 pounders on each front wheel as well. they do not fit inside the rim however, i made spacers out of pipe...HUGE improvement in traction. chris
