I broke the Joystick selector part(36001-0140) on my DK40HSE. Trying to figure out how to get the part out so I can repair it with the replacement part I have coming.

Do I need to disconnect the cable links inder the body of the assembly, or is there an easier way to get the selector part off of the 3 ball joints.

Here is a pic of the part that is broken. DK40HSE selector.jpg

When I broken mine, I disconnected the cables from the spool valves and pulled the entire assembly and swapped the part out.

I had to do some adjustments to get the stick in the right position, but it wasn't a huge deal.

In my case, the float detent balls were stucking in the sockets and required more effort to get in and out of float. That's how I ended up snapping mine.

If the same thing happened to you, you'll want to pull the end cap off and put some lube down there, it seems to collect water.

How did you disconnect it at the valve? I tried pulling the 2 Allen head bolts but that didn't help then I loosened the adjuster nut and it's still connected.

I finally figured it out. I needed to remove an allen head bolt on the back of the assembly that release the one ball that is not connected to a cable spool.

There is a trick to getting all the balls back in too. One slot is longer/deeper than the others. I have done it twice now on mine. Hopefully the new solid balls I got this time will last forever.

I spent a couple of minutes yesterday attempting to put it back together. I have not yet figured out how to get all 3 balls in the selector part. Maybe your hint will help when I get a chance this week to get it back together.

Even knowing how to do it, I still got caught. I struggled for about 30 minutes trying to get the balls in and then realized that the new part was badly molded and wasn't letting the ball go all the way in the long slot, thus preventing me from getting the others in.
I had to drill out the slot so the ball would go freely all the way to the end. Cranky that I got a faulty part. So make sure the balls slide in the slots before trying to assemble it. Pics showing the long slot and the old type Nylon coated ball.
If you don't see it has a long slot before you try to fit it, Then once it is upside down you can't see the slots are different so you might struggle for a long time.
Put a ball in the long slot first or you will never get the others in. LOL

First time I replaced mine was because they were badly designed balls. Second time I jumped off my tractor and the joystick went up my shorts as I jumped and split one of those molded nylon balls off. Parts cost just on $300 here in Oz now. First time it was $200.

Two of the slots on the selector were not cast correctly and I had to grind them out. In order to get it back together I had to put the handle back on the selector so I could push the balls down while getting the 3rd stationary ball in. Thanks for the help!
