Bought a tractor. Deutz Allis 5520 HST 4wd with FEL and Backhoe. Same tractor as the Massey 1020. It seemed to drive ok. Changed all the fluids and it wouldn't move right. Dad played with it and seemed air bound. Started working ok. I moved it to a friends and didn't seem right. The PTO would stop with any pressure on the backhoe. Same as before when it seemed airbound. Brought it back to dads, New filters ( $215). Barely moved. Next day dad let it warm up for about 30 minutes. Worked the Front loader a bit and he said it seemed good again. We assumed it was air. Today went to move some snow and it's not right again.
I was able to catch a piece of the shaft that runs from the clutch to the HST pump. It's barely moving even at 1500rpm. We adjust the clutch so there is a ton of freeplay. Helped a tiny bit. The hotter the machine gets the better the shaft seems to spin. It's almost like the clutch needs to be real hot to actually grab. Any low rpms will stop the PTO shaft.
I'm not worried about splitting the tractor but has anyone seen this happen before. Why did it seem to manifest after the fluids were changed? We assumed it was a air problem but if the clutch isn't locked properly I guess it couldn't make enough drive pressure.
