Broken transmission pump gears in 1020.

I have a jd 1020 gas serial no 79000. Lost power steering and rockshaft function. After two splits clutch then transmission I found transmission pump gears destroyed. I installed new gears. I ran a magnet in the input and output lines and removed many teeth and metal pieces. Also installed a magnet inside suction screen . Should I do anything else.

I’d probably run it a little bit if you think you have it cleaned as well as possible, maybe a hour or two, then dump the fluid and put new in.

Personally I think magnet in suction screen will come closer to locating any stray metal fragments than changing hyd oil but if any stray metal parts are recovered then changing oil would be a plus.

I would also take apart the transmission filter relief valve and clean it, incase any metal ended up there. There is also a "surge" valve you may want to check, lower right side of the clutch housing. The transmission filter should have protected the front pump and it's inlet line.

I wonder what broke it?

I was brush hogging heard a noise Then lost hydraulics to power steering and rockshaft. Big gear was broken in two and most teeth were gone. Small gear was broken in two and also had many teeth missing.
