Everyone who owns an older model BX knows about the infamous air cleaner band that is notorious for fatigue failure. Mine was replaced before 100hrs.
Well, I have a new problem and I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced something similar.
The BX1500 has a large cast iron counterweight mounted over the engine's valve cover. It is there to prevent the inline 2-cylinder diesel from shaking the tractor to pieces. Two brackets made of 1/4" thick steel plate bolted directly to the engine block hold the weight in place. One of the brackets on my machine actually snapped in half! After performing surgery to remove the pieces it was obvious fatigue failure.
Yesterday I welded the pieces back together and with luck I should have time tonight to reinstall the repaired bracket.
My question is: Has anyone else had this happen? Something similar related to engine vibration?
I was shocked. It never occured to me that heavy duty of a part would failure like that. I know that little 2-cyl shakes a lot, but it is smooth as silk just a bit off idle. Regardless, I don't think something like that should happen.
Any thoughts?
