Tractor
Kubota L3010, loaded r'4s and an Ingersoll 4018
Well, I now have a scrape on my tractor. The first of many, I'm sure. I told my wife I have two choices, trade it or try to touch it up. Needless to say, the debate lasted about 2 seconds. So, what methods do you all use to touch up? This one is just a small abrasion, the tiltmeter was taped to the loader crossbar and over the last several hours, vibrated against the hood of the tractor. Very minor paint removal, but down to the primer. Not whining, just wondering what methods are used to repaint, from simple wear to deep gouges, like on the loader bucket. Once winter comes and my time on the tractor decreases I'll do all those things I want to do, touch ups, storage boxes, bucket chain hooks, etc. David

David, several people, in the past, have mentioned some other brands of paint that match, but I just bought genuine Kubota aerosol paint from the dealer; one can of orange and one of gray (and haven't used either one yet).

Bird, let me know how the orange matches, most of the time it's not even close!?

I have not found the "paint in a can to match well and since it is a single part will not offer the durability of two part paints. For a touch up fine but your hood--?--I would remove it--strip to steel--shoot it with an epoxy primer and then follow with custom matched paint availble at any paint supply. You could have a body shop do it. OR--you could just prime the gouge--spray on some orange paint and live with it till it tries to rust and then deal with it--if ever. J

That would be about my normal luck./w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif Of course, they had two different orange colors and I, supposedly, got the right one. And I bought them several months ago; just haven't used them yet, like I planned to.

I've bruised my B2100 and found that Ace Hardware carries a "Machine and Implement" rust stopper enamel that exactly matches the factory paint. The last time I posted this, Bird replied his Ace guy never heard of it. The info on the upc code is 17132 Allis Chalmers Orange and the upc code nos are 8290117132. I'm sure it's cheaper than factory paint since the 15 oz spray can was less than $5.00

By the way, Muhammed, this is the best of all sites I've ever encountered on the net.

Feather the edges of the "gouge" starting with 320 and finishing with 400 grit sandpaper. It's in my opnion optional to use primer on a tractor but spray with primer. Sand and feather again. Primer is used to build up the area to the original height. You will notice that Kubota uses several layers of paint as you feather the edges. Finish sand the area with 400 or 600 grit. Spray the area with Kubota brite orange II. Do your best to blend the edges of the repair with the existing original finish. Do 3 or 4 lite coats allowing a couple of minutes between coats. This allows a build up of thickness without the paint running. After the paint is completely cured (about 2 weeks) gently rub down the area with an auto polish (use the kind that has no wax in it). This will help in blending with the original finish. Short of taking it to an auto body shop this will produce a good result and is overkill for a tractor. This will take you quite a while and after you are done you will think twice about it the next time around. Get a book or video on auto painting or visit the local auto body shop for a couple of hours.
Don't worry about the "bruises". They happen. The only repairs I do are to make sure to keep the rust away. The cosmetics are a bonus.
I used to paint cars many years ago. I still have some of the equipment. Usually what I do is just sand with 320 and paint with the finish color. It's only a tractor.

Really??? The dealer gave me a full spray can with my tractor "in case I scratched it anywhere"....didn't take long! I touched it up and I can barely notice where the touch up is. I think it was a good match.

After reinforcing the upper edge of the bucket on me B 2710 I sprayed it with a can of the Kubota touch up paint. It not only stuck to the new metal but the color was a very good match.

I have a real hard time keeping paint on the front edge of my loader bucket. The darnn rocks keep scratching it off. Deep scratches take a long time to remove from the steel with 320 paper.

I have the same problems with my mower blades. Every nigh, after I wash them, I use quick dry spray paint before the wax.
