I bought a PT-425 two years ago. I have around 275 hours on it mostly mowing (yard and fields) as well as digging post holes and other misc tasks. I've had to replace a seal in one of the front wheel motors and now the motor on the brush cutter is fried. After I hammered the shaft out of the housing, I noticed gouges in the housing and on the shaft. I got it running again by turning the shaft in my lathe, but it seemed to be a temporary fix. Terry (at PT) says I need a new one for $300, but could offer no reason for the motors demise. Seems ridiculous that the motor wouldn't last longer. At most it was used for 50 hours. I hate to think I'll need to buy a new one every two years.

Anyway, I know PT jacks up the cost of these replacement parts, so I'm trying to figure out what motor this is. Of course PT has taken the service tag off of the motor. All it has on it now is:

2605
Danfoss
and
9M16
3-6

Anyone know what motor that is? I called a shop this morning, but they couldn't tell me unless I sent it to them to match up with the ones they have on the shelf.

Thanks in advance.

First of all, Welcome to TBN and the PT Forum!!

I do not know the specific motor model, but most any hydraulic shop should be able to either rebuild yours or come up with a suitable replacement.

There is nothing unique about the OEM motor from PT. As long as you are within the GPM and max pressure of the PTO circuit, many other motors will work as well or better.

In smaller communities, many agricultural, construction, or general truck repair shops can take care of you as well as a specialty "Hydraulic" shop.

It is frustrating that PT removes ID tags from so many "standard" componants just to make life difficult. It is a short-sighted practice that does not earn them any brownie point with PT owners. Luckily the basic machine is quite sturdy and fairly easy to work on when needed.

One good thing is that PT usually has replacement parts in stock and can "over night" them to you if you are in a real time bind.

Good Luck,

Rip

Sorry to hear of your problem, but with a little help from folks on this Forum, I hope that you are up and running ASAP. Before just popping for a new motor from PT, I would consider taking the unit to a hydraulic shop, if for nothing else than to "get a diagnosis" as to what caused the failure in the first place. You might then get a repair estimate from them. I know little about these motors, but I googled Danfoss and came up with their website. It's quite comprehensive, and gives much detail on all their motors in PDF files. You should be able to find your motor there, or even call them and inquire. The website is:
Danfoss Website
There are a number of hydraulic parts places with websites, too for parts, etc. One particularly good one is:
Hydraulic Supermarket .

Keep us posted and speedy repair.

Thanks for your input. It's frustrating for Power-Trac to rake us over the coals when we've already invested in their machine. While I love the tractor, the customer service and service prices stink.

I'm pretty sure the current motor is not repairable and I don't want to chance sending metal shavings into the rest of the hydraulic system, so I'm going to just buy a new one. It seems like I can get one for around $150-200, not the $300 Power-trac would charge. The problem is figuring out the specs on the current one. I called a local shop that showed up on Danfoss' website as a dealer and he couldn't make any use of the numbers I listed earlier.

I'd appreciate anyone who could give me the specs, or even what seems appropriate for a brush cutter so I can determine which motor I have.

Thanks again.

Hmm. Time for hydraulics 101.

Anyone have that link to the military manual handy? It has all the formulas to figure out what sized motor is needed if you provide the GPM, PSI and desired RPM.

I've had good service, and helpful response on the phone by Bailey. LINK
Their paper catalog also has formulae here and there for sizing components. They may be on the website, as well.

That's why Power Trac charges so much - they know the specs!!

Like brain surgery, the charge is'nt for makin' a cut, it's for knowin' what to cut!!!! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

If we have the same Danfoss motor the one on my 48" brush cutter is a Danfoss 151-2121 Series DH-50. I have not looked up the specs but this comes off the label on the top of the motor. I bought mine 1 year ago. I had to replace the original motor under warranty. The new motor was not painted black so the label is still legible. When my unit arrived the first motor ran for about 5 mins. Terry sent me a replacement and I returned the original.
