Well, after 160hrs I finally took off the FEL so I could do some brush hog work (the TO20 needs some maintanence work). It's really strange driving it without the FEL! It seems so small! Other than the obvious benefits of live PTO & hydraulics and position control, I noticed a few other things.
The TO20 with a 5' hog is very intuitive to use. The front wheel track is about the same as the rear (as it is set up), and that is about the width of the cutter. Also, the wheelbase is about the same as the distance from the rear wheels to the tail wheel on the brus hog (Woods Dixie Cutter M60). This means that is the front wheels clear a object, you can be sure the cutter will too, as long as you hold the turn in a constant arc. And as you turn, the hog tracks along nicely without kicking out too fast.
With the LK3054, the wheelbase is much shorter than the distance to the tailwheel, so the back of the hog kicks out fairly fast as you turn. Also the fron ttrrack on my (older) LK is much narrower than the rear, which makes it harder to judge things.
Now, a lot of this is because I'm not used to it, and I really like how the LK pulls the hog - it's nice to have enough power! I didn't run it anyway near the 540RPM PTO speed - kept it around 2000rpm engine speed. I just thought I'd share my thoughts.
