Anyone have any problems with losing the lynch pins out of the lower links?
I changed my pins to face the inside. When I tighten up the swing chains it forces the links to the outside. Even if I lose a pin in the field, I don't lose the mower. Hope this will help any of you.

After a lot of hours mowing and box blading, I have lost my top pin a couple times, but never the lower. Top pins were lost both times when brush hogging down by the creek and really working my rotary cutter hard. Reversing the pins is an interesting solution if that were a problem./w3tcompact/icons/hmm.gif However, that means loosening the chains and retightening each time you change implements.

When we got a 2584 LP mower it can
w/ stamped steel plates to go on before
lynch pin and about 3/4" edge comes out
over lynch pin.
This shields pin from direct hits and never lost any.
This was cat.3 pins , don't know if these are
made for cat.1.

Do you use the chains to get a constant mowing level also, by simply setting your 3pt arms all the way down and then letting the chains hold the front of the deck up?

That's how I use the check chains - also takes all the weight off the 3 pt arms. I'd read (here) about a "rocker" arm being a common failure of the 3 pt systems as a result of exceeding the 3 pt capacity which happens with a heavy load if you go bouncing across a field as you tend to do when bushhogging. Figured the 20 check chains was good insurance against that.

I have had these pins shear off, retaining spring break etc., until I found a much "stronger" pin according to a John Deere dealer whos' place I was in at the time ... I have not had a failure of these pins ... they are black and the spring is very strong and, as the dealer said, be careful of letting the spring snap on your finger ... I will be back in the dealers area in about a month and if anyone is interested I can get the name and post it ... they did cost a little more than the normal cadium coated ones but so far they have worked great .. when these things fail and the impliment works it self off the 3 point hitch only bad things happen ...

The chains I'm relating to are the swing adjusting ones. They do not hold the load at all, just keep it from swinging from side to side. You have given me a great idea though. I have one emplement that has such a short drive shaft that if the link let it all the way down it will part. I will put a stop chain on it. Thank you for turning my light on.
