I finally attached my old brush hog to the tractor last night and I was pulling it around and the rear wheel seemed to resist turning somewhat vigoruously. Is this normal? Should the wheel be turned on way or the other (obviously it is not the same or I wouldn't have asked /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif).

I have a very old hog that I inherited when I purchased my tractor (used). I sharpened the blades, greased the zircs, etc. Any help with for this rookie hogger would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

The wheel should both turn easily and pivot easily. It sounds like it might be time to take that assembly apart, clean and lubricate everything thoroughly and try it that way. Good luck with it. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

I think you are talking about turning side to side rather than rotating. Mine is only a little over 2 years old, but the rear wheel turns freely all directions. Sounds like yours may be binding or is corroded. You may have to take it apart and clean and/or regrease it.

My brush hog did that once. And when I got to looking at it to see why the wheel wasn't turning properly, I found that my son-in-law had busted a weld on it, so it wasn't aligned properly./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif Wasn't any big deal to weld it back.

Thanks for all the responses. I'm not sure I asked the question very well but I'll try and experiment tonight and see if it is siimply a operator error as I originally expected.

Hi todd:
If your referring to the wheel pivot. You may have to dissasemble the pivot shaft and check to see if it has been slightly bent.

Also did you get my return Email reguarding First Choice.

Hello again Russ how's that RFM treating you? With all the rain then sun I bet it's getting some use.

Okay - back to my problem(s)

I'm just not quite sure how the pivot wheel is supposed to behave. Is is supposed to pivot around whenever it wants to or is it suppossed to stay somewhat fixed. Let's say it's facing one way (call this the front). When I make a turn it may or may not depending on the turn pivot, swivel all the way 180 degrees around . Is this normal? Am I still being to unclear? Thanks.

Assuming it is touching the ground, my rear wheel always turns to trail the rear of the cutter deck as it moves sideways.
If I lift the cutter off the ground, the wheel swivels freely. If yours does not, then something must be binding it up. If it swivels freely hanging in the air, then it must be out of alignment as Bird suggested.
