MAHINDRA 4110, Ford 2N
I am about to buy a new brush hog for my 4110, and would like some advice on what size to buy. I have a small 4 footer on my Ford 2N, and it is just too small. I would like to get either a 5' or 6' for the 4110. I mow mainly pasture grass (mixed bahaia, and what I call "bunch grass"). 2 pastures, one about 15 acres, another about 7 acres. Seems like a waste to go from a 4' to only a 5', but I am afraid the 6' will bog down too much in the pasture when it gets high (and it don't take long to get tall.) Size recommendations are appreciated. I am considering the bush hog squealer brand.

My 2810 handles a BrushBull60 pretty well, I would think you would have no problem with a 72". My only complaint with the tall (2-3'+) grass is a brush hog is not the ideal cutter for it. A finish mower would leave less clumping I think. Finances are dictating one do-all tool for now however. It would also cut down on the time it would take to mow that much.

I run a 72 inch without even thinking about it.. Could easily run an 84 also. The 72 if you have R4's like me, the tires are about two inches wider each side.. I overlap 1/3 to a 1/2 depending on heavy or light cutting and to cover the tire tracks.. Power wise and all that, you can go 84 and not think about it or 72..

I forgot to mention that I have R1 (Ag) tires on my 4110. Sometimes I wish I had the R4s, but I went with the R1s instead.

Not sure you'd want to go with a HD/Med Duty 7 ft (84in) as they will weigh in at well over 1200 lbs or so, depending on the model (mine is about 1400 lbs). Most 7 ft's are also Cat II, but could be converted. I'd stay with a 6 ft for the 4110. Just my opinion....BobG in VA

BobG is probably right on for most mowers at that size. CAT-II

I have an 84" finish mower on my 3510 (same machine as 4510, but smaller tires and a few less hp) and it does well.

I've mowed low fields in 10th gear, but slow down for higher grass. That's really the trick here- how fast do you want to mow?

Still, at lower speeds, but an extra few feet for each pass worst case, and same speeds for lower grass and the extra wide cut was certainly worth it to me.

If you do get a CAT-II mower, I absolutely suggest a Cat-I quickhitch and modify the mower to fit. Otherwise your lower arm turnbuckles may hit or be extremely close to the tires. (R4)

I made some pins and slight mods to my mower that were pretty simple for CAT-I quickhitch. I can post pics somewhere if you like.

You have a few more PTO hp than I, but I don't know if a brush hog takes more or less hp than a finish mower. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif Maybe someone else can tell us that.

PS- If you have a FEL, put weight in the rear tires. Even with heavy 3ph implements for counterbalance, that frame is VERY tippy. I used windshield washer fluid and it helped a great deal.
