Brush hogging and top links pins

I have a small Fred Cain rotary cutter and it has a flexible hitch with a chain running from the top of the cutter hitch back to the trail wheel bracket. This setup allows the cutter to follow contours. Works great.

I've had a chain on mine for 14 yrs.
No problems w/ it.

Thanks for the confirmation guys! Now I feel better about giving it a try.

Doesn't your hog have some type of flexible top link or swinging/pivoting top connection? Except for a few early King Kutter models, I thought most hogs now have that. Although something more may be needed, often that can help quite a bit.

Yea, my hog has that link also. I try to set it in the middle so that I get about 3" forward and backward flex. The reason I'll be putting a chain on instead is that I've got a creek bed I cross regularly that, even with the BH raised, I bend one of the support brakets on the BH. I read a thread in the attachments area which also gave the nod to chains for situations like mine.
But, I would also guess that chain or top link, we'll still have to watch that the pins don't slip off, like mentioned earlier in this thread.
