I’m sure that most here have been in a big truck looking down on a small car in front of them, or in the car having the big truck behind them.

The angle to my logic is size = might = right and that means smaller gets out of the way of larger who has the implicit right of way (I do not agree with this logic but it seems to pervade our local area)

I drive a Miata, it’s not hard for a Tonka truck to “intimidate” me /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif. As I also live out in the boonies, dead end road, by the lake, near campers, hunters and hikers… we have a plethora of trucks motoring down our road. The road is 12 feet wide (yes I measured once for other reasons). How wide is a truck? 6 feet? Not much room for bi-directional traffic.

It drives me NUTS, that as I drive down my narrow road to go home, I’ll inevitably come across trucks (though to be fair, sometimes cars) that just HAPPEN to not put much thought into the fact they are driving WAY too fast…and MOST of the time.. just “pull to their right” some which means that the big, bad, and many times 4 wheel drive, truck is ON the road, and my car…has it’s two right wheels OFF the road because I understand I’ll lose the head on battle with the truck. Again, size seems to make might and therefore right of way. Be honest…I’m sure you’ve snickered at least once with that feeling of “Get out of my way wimp”. I know I have! /w3tcompact/icons/eyes.gif /w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif

Over the years of being run off the side of the road again and again and again… it REALLY gets /w3tcompact/icons/mad.gif /w3tcompact/icons/mad.gif /w3tcompact/icons/mad.gif.

Well /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif.. On two occasions now, I’ve had need to be out on that side of the farm with Brutus. 90 turbo’ed horses, 8 foot bucket…able to life over 6,000 pounds with a single pull of a lever…(looking for it’s cape…/w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif )

Guess who I saw on the road but some stranger in a truck driving smack dab down middle of road at 5:00 A.M. Guess what this truck driver did? He stopped…and SAT in the middle of the road, waiting for me to move out of his way. Well..as I was conviently at a turn in road (very windy road with many blind turns) I just sat there….he sat there…I sat there. Well, I outweighed him by ?? couple tons and could lift his sneakers clean off the ground.. guess what? He finally backed up the 50/75 feet to an easy turn around area and let me pass. I just motored on past him and nodded to him in a nice polite way.

Other time, same road..different spot, I was cleaning up small “landslide” as the county was busy with the other larger ones.. a truck came up behind me. The mud/slide was ½ way across road, so I just continued my way, figuring he can wait. There are only 4 houses out here and he was not a resident so I figured he can just park it and wait for ME for a change. Besides, I was helping to clean up the very path he was getting ready to take. He sat there for maybe 5 minutes then just turned around and left. I never saw him the rest of the day.

Now, as I drive my Miata and get “intimidated” by a truck, I just smile, wishing that some day, we might meet again… on my road.

You're much nicer than me. I'll move over just so far, and if the tourist doesn't reciprocate I simply stop where I am. Have also been known to simply lock up the car and walk home, leaving it in the middle of the road. Or, on big tourist weekends, my winch might help a diseased tree fall over into the road...and I'll cut it into pieces with an ax. Very small pieces. Tiny. /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Fellows:
You must realize the tourist has probably spent all his/her life driving between lines and doesn't have a clue where their right side tires are.
Many of our roads here are quite narrow and my lowboy trailer has maybe six inches clearance for the tires on either side of my lane. Not being an exspecially good driver it can get interesting at times.

My wife has found that weaving back and forth in the old Dodge truck like Cruela DeVille convinces folks to give her more room. /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Yeah,

Laughing hysterically and talking to yourself usually gets me a few extra feet of breathing room. And it provides me with some mild entertainment.

I have a bad leg from a truck driver that pulled that im bigger than your are crap. I was headed to work and on the first day of my new position as jobsite operator and foreman a truck waited till i was around 70 feet away to run out infront of me. I was in a 1987 jeep cherokee and at 50 mils per hour i was doing five less than the speedlimit in that area because of a previous incident. after i slid into him he stopped got out checked on me then pulled upand got straight in the road. then told the cops i bounced back 70 feet and he had been going 25mph which for a truck loaded with rols of steel id doubt. It broke my right femur and my left hand in 2 places. It took the rescue squad around 50 minutes to extractme and a helicopter ride. He got off scot free. I know the driver well and have a freind that does alot of highway paving when his truck comes through it always gets to wait a while. I drive a truck parttime and know how hard it is to drive one but i never pull the stuff like some drivers do.When we owned our rolloff trucks dad always loaned one out to my older brother on leases i was riding back with him to get anothr load and a log hauler was tailgating so brother gets to the big 4way stop in town and when we get stopped the log wagon was maybe a foot away from the loading forks my brother gave the Mack an extened rollback befroe releasing the clutch and left a steaming KW in the middle of town.
